King mackerel love the deep and dirty water and are a fairly common fish in our area. To target kings we have the best luck Freedive spearfishing as their sharp teeth make them hard to catch on fishing line.
for your delivery this week we headed to the inshore waters off the coast of Aguadilla. This past weeks rain made the surface water murky but it cleared up at around 50-60’ which is ideal for targeting Kingfish. The fish we harvested for smoking was shot at this spot.
When dealing with oily fish like mackerel, it is crucial to gut and bleed swiftly. we do this immediately after catching while the fish is still in the water and promptly transfer to the cooler. we then pack the belly cavity full of ice to rapidly reduce the temperature and preserve the meat's freshness.
